pioneering Aquatic robotics since 2016
Creating cleaner waterways with smart autonomous technology
RanMarine began with a simple idea:
- 2016: First prototypes tested in Dutch canals
- 2016: RanMarine founded in Rotterdam
- 2017: first WASTESHARK LAUNCHED
- 2019: FIRST ROBOTS IN THE UAE, united kingdom
- 2020: First robots in the US, South Africa and Australia
- 2023: first robots in south america
- 2025: Launch of WasteShark Plus & CyanoShark in final R&D
What if we could clean the world’s waters silently, safely and sustainably?
Our founder realised that traditional methods were expensive, labour-intensive and reactive.
So we built the first small, intelligent surface robot designed to record water quality data and remove waste before it becomes a problem.
Fun fact:
The WasteShark design mimics the giant mouth of a Whale Shark, known for its slow swimming and filtration of tiny organisms like krill and jellyfish. Similarly, the WasteShark swims and collects floating waste in its basket, resembling the shark’s filtration process.
our mission
To help cities, ports and organisations protect their waterways using robotics that deliver visible impact, lower operational cost, and zero emissions.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE TECHNOLOGY
Global Impact, Proven Results
From ports to marinas to inland waterways,
our smart fleet delivers measurable impact on water quality, daily!
collected by the WasteShark fleet since 2016
patrolled and cleaned annually across 4 continents
are deployed globally for managing all waterway types.
* That’s 1.65+ million gallons of waste and 31,000+ miles of waterways for our US friends!
OUR JOURNEY
2016
First Waste-Catching Prototype
Early remote-controlled prototype tested in Rotterdam canals proves that small surface robots can safely collect floating debris.
2016
RanMarine is Born
Founded in Rotterdam with one clear mission: use marine robotics to help cities and ports keep their waterways clean, healthy, and accessible.
2017
WasteShark Hits the Water
The first commercial WasteSharks are deployed. We showed the world that smart robots can quietly replace manual skimming in busy marinas.
2019
SHARKS GO INTERNATIONAL
Our drones arrive in the UAE and the UK. From cold British waters to hot desert harbors, the WasteShark proves it can handle the elements.
2020
GOING GLOBAL
The fleet expands to the US, South Africa, and Australia. We officially have robots cleaning up on three new continents.
2023
TOUCHDOWN IN SOUTH AMERICA
We complete the map. With new units arriving in South America, RanMarine technology is now active in every major region of the globe.
2025
THE NEXT EVOLUTION
WasteShark + officially launches as RanMarine’s flagship product, giving cities, ports and industries a proven, scalable way to clean their waterways.
Press & Recognition
RanMarine and WasteShark have been featured by leading media and organisations around the world.
